Woodworking, part two: A tale of a table

This post probably could also be called: How to put a cat on a shelf.

Like we mentioned in the last post, the biggest modification that we did to the interior of the Imp was removing the dinette to give ourselves more floor space.

What we didn't show was what we replaced it with.  Zach built us a table that attaches to the RV wall, but can also be unbolted and taken out for use elsewhere.  Mostly, you haven't seen photos because because the new table was always a mess.

If you'd ever been to our stick house, you know that pretty much every table surface was always covered with books, projects, yarn, lamps and most likely snacks. :)  Some things haven't really changed in the RV, except that the surfaces are smaller.  And often have cats on them.  (No cats were allowed on the tables in the condo. Kind of unavoidable in the RV.)  Hence, no pictures cause you wouldn't be able to see anything except cats and stuff!

And, if you know cats, you know that they delight in walking on your stuff, laying on your stuff and pushing your stuff off of surfaces.  Just cuz. Which meant that getting anything done on the table or finding your stuff actually still on the table was a challenge. Double this for the RV - maybe even triple this 😸.  Also, the table is under the window that looks out onto a field - which means birds all day for the girls to watch.

So we decided to build the girls a shelf above the table so that they have somewhere to sit and look out the window that isn't on our stuff.  A Home Depot run, $7 and a little husband cussing later, we had a 58" long x 7" wide shelf running across the back of the table.  Bonus: we could store quite a lot of stuff under there and the cats can't walk on it!

Song took to it right away.

In true cat fashion, Tam refuses to have anything to do with it.  Sigh.
